Find your own style by experimenting with different tools and drawing techniques. From their species to their clothing, everything about a memorable character is carefully designed (usually over many iterations) by concept artists and art teams. In this course, he teaches you the industry-tested processes and techniques that he has used as part of his creative and professional practice for years. Learn the fundamentals of research, painting, and design for character creation using image editing software.

Concept Art Process

The best way to start practicing character design is to draw a lot of people. This helps build a visual library of references like clothing, accessories, hair styles, glasses, shoes, and similar features that you can put into your work. To embark on this career path, it’s essential to invest time in learning 3D modeling software, attending workshops or courses, and practicing your skills. By combining your knowledge of concept art with 3D modeling expertise, you can elevate your career to new heights and take on exciting challenges in the industry. Depending on what type of character the artist will be designing, they need to do a lot of research on the real thing before even starting to sketch.

Slice of Life

We know how important our silhouette is to the success of our character, so we can’t just do one sketch and assume it’s the best solution. We must explore many different presentations and develop our idea relentlessly to find the solution that best expresses our character’s ideas. Done by a French concept artist, it begins at the initial sketching stage and carries you through to the final colorized design. The artist encourages you to make small silhouettes with no clear character design in mind. Emphasizing the importance of drawing speed, this tutorial starts with a time-saving technique.

Career Path for Concept Artists

This brings us to the next important step, which is making different views as reference materials. Learn how to create memorable characters that tell a story in Even Amundsen's concept art course for character design and worldbuilding. With a broad range of interests and a fervor for learning new skills, Chigg views his creative process as an evolution. He sees drawing, painting, and design as a visual representation of the work that you invest, what you’ve learned, and how well you understand the world around you. Chigg has worked for clients around the world including Warner Bros, Disney, Riot Games, and Netflix, and across titles such as Black Mirror, War of the Worlds series, and Artemis Fowl.

So You Want To Be A Concept Artist?

Concept sketching is a technique you can use to develop your speed and put down ideas faster. The tutorial finishes with a few low-key final touches that add realism to the final piece. At the same time, highlights are added using the overlay layer style to draw out exciting angles. They may be fighting for their people, which raises the question of who their people are.

If it is difficult for you to create your own poses, you can use them for easy posing. Since the view is in 3D, you can move the camera angle as you like as well. Use 3D figures with ready-made poses that take advantage of the personality of the character in order to make the character closer to your ideal. After graduating, he worked at Volta studio for three years, before moving to Prague to focus on freelance projects. Even has worked with various studios on titles including Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, and also shares his work with over 300K followers on Instagram. The course is for anyone interested in designing compelling characters by exploring worldbuilding principles.

The step-by-step character design process

Concept art is a type of visual art that is used in films, video games, animation, comic books, and other types of media to communicate a concept. A client will typically provide audience information in the brief, but you’ll want to do research beyond demographics such as age, gender, location, etc. Look up other artists who design for that target audience, and the types of styles that appeal to them. You must have a solid understanding of figure drawing, perspective, and form construction in order to create designs that can be translated into 3D space.

Looking for Design Bundles or Cartoon Characters?

After this marathon of exploration and editing, we are rewarded with the opportunity to create lots of fun details, colors and materials. Always remember however that these small pieces and parts only matter if a character has a strong silhouette and iconic secondary shapes. Returning to our architecture metaphor, you can’t hang paintings and decorations before the foundation is stable and the walls are firmly constructed. This is a process of iteration, where we start big and work our way down.

However, there are some tips that could improve the final result in terms of how it’s perceived by the audience. To create characters that will be appealing to bigger audiences, you may not be surprised at all to know that what goes to any sort of design in marketing applies to the characters as well. It’s important to keep in mind the concept of color psychology and the emotions that color communicates as a tool of conversion. Also known as a model sheet for the final design for the character, this is where the artist either rotates the character into different views or gives it different poses to show it in action. The following list is an additional directory of articles, blogs, podcasts, and other useful resources for artists, which you can use as a compendium for our visual library. The original document was resourced and meticulously compiled by Ashley Odell ( @ashleyodellart on Twitter ).

Using a concept chart you can save time by removing extraneous overthinking. You just pick a genre, gender, class(weapon or fighting style), and species. After three different landscapes are blocked in, each mood and design is explained.

Architect Philip Johnson was the director of the show, which was the museum’s first architectural exhibition and featured the work of Richard Neutra, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, and other figures whose work would influence and define MCM. The works of Alvar Aalto and Marcel Breuer were also formative for MCM, particularly their furniture designs which continue to resonate today. The property will also contain a backyard swimming pool, plus a pool house or poolside cabana of some sort. No word about whether it will feature a full-size tennis court, however, as the original Zimmerman property did.

Floor-to-Ceiling Windows

What makes authentic, midcentury modern homes so irresistible after all of these years? Think sleek lines or organic curves, often punctuated by large windows that unified interior spaces with the great outdoors. Like the international style, contemporary Mid-Century Modern houses feature clean lines and floor-to-ceiling windows. These homes incorporate more natural and organic materials like wood, stone, and brick, and typically have asymmetrical exteriors with windows extending to the roofline and exposed ceilings and beams in the interior. The largest collection of midcentury modern homes, however, can be seen in Palm Springs, California. Some of the world's most famous midcentury modern architects built homes, hotels, motels, and other structures in Palm Springs, and many homeowners building new construction replicate the style.

Garage Plan Collections

However, Palm Springs, CA, the pinnacle of everything Mid-Century Modern, is renowned for this style of architecture. Midcentury modern was originally considered a collection of homes built after World War II, rather than a specific style. Today, however, "midcentury modern" often denotes a particular building or decorating style. Mid century modern interiors also lend themselves to new design styles and trends, such as the retro revival trend or the Organic Modern trend, offering new styles timeless appeal. Within the US though, the style largely stems from California, where architects and designers like Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Arne Jacobsen, and so many other pioneered the style by bucking the traditions of more formal, ornate styles. Volkov and Phipps plan to keep the mid-century modern look and feel for the exterior with modern appliances and features throughout the house inside.

They plan to do much of the work themselves and will split the costs, with Volkov paying off the private loan and Phipps paying for all the renovation expenses. "Over the next two years, we're putting everything we have into the home and living the frugal lifestyle," Phipps says. "The property was very overgrown, and unfortunately, a lot of the greenery will have to be taken out," Phipps says. After several months of cleaning, the two enlisted their parents' help to get it down to the studs. Now, the couple is working with an engineer to get a new roof on before winter starts this year and has shifted to clearing out the house's grounds.

The Los Angeles home of interior designer Giampiero Tagliaferri is an object lesson in the wonders of 20th-century Italian furniture and the affinities between Italian modernism and the midcentury-modern movement incubated in Southern California. About two months after their dash to Las Vegas, the Stahls decided to drive up to this mystery spot and have a look around. They found themselves gawping at the entirety of Los Angeles spread out below in a grid that went on for an eternity or two. In the kismet-filled conversation that followed, Buck agreed to buy the barren one-eighth-acre lot for $13,500, with $100 down and the seller maintaining the mortgage until the Stahls paid it off. On that site, they would construct Case Study House #22, designed by Pierre Koenig, arguably the most famous of all the houses in the famous Case Study program that Arts & Architecture magazine initiated in 1945.

Today, the 3.18-acre spread includes the six-bedrooom and seven-bedroom main house, with its distinctive folded plate roof, along with a detached pool house. Over his 70-plus-year career, American architect Frank Lloyd Wright famously mentored a host of apprentices until he died in 1959. In fact, well over 600 students studied under Wright at his Arizona studio, Taliesin West, creating a lasting ripple effect in architecture and residential home design across the United States. Restored plywood lines the kitchen in artist Mary Weatherford’s modernist and Oliver M. Furth–designed L.A.

Known for its open concept floor plans, flat roofs, walls of glass, clean lines, and focus on integrating nature, it’s no wonder Mid-Century Modern houses are considered a timeless trend. Keep reading to learn why the Mid-Century Modern house style has remained one of the most popular home styles since its start in the 1940s. Connecting with nature is a key value in midcentury modern architecture, so most midcentury modern homes have multiple access points to the outdoors. In some homes, even single rooms have several doors and windows to access the outdoor living space.

Plenty of Natural Light and Bright Interiors

Permit records indicate the upcoming new house, which stands two stories tall and includes a full basement, was designed by L.A. Architect Ken Ungar, perhaps one of the Westside’s most prolific and successful designers of large modern farmhouse-style mansions. A house doesn’t have to be a particular year to be considered mid-century modern.

Outdoors, the grounds are dotted with Italian stone pines, and host a summer kitchen, several spots ideal for al fresco lounging and entertaining, and picturesque vistas overlooking the park-like Arroyo Seco and Colorado State Bridge. “We kept the existing paneling,” Redmond Warner explains of the primary bedroom. And then once we kind of started layering things that felt more colorful and softer, it just became something so lovely.” The bedside tables are from Lawson-Fenning, and the sconces are Apparatus. Josef Albers artwork, a Mansour Modern rug, and a vintage sofa sourced through 1stDibs are additional standouts. “When I built in steel, what you saw was what you got,” the plain-spoken Koenig once said.

Built in 1967, the newly renovated home was designed by architect James Allen Walter. The Hoppuses asked Marmol Radziner to incorporate drought-resistant native plants into the garden in order to be sensitive to the California landscape. It has flowers, bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies and all kinds of cool stuff. Follow us for a daily dose of outstanding homes, intelligent architecture & beautiful design. In March 1954, Clarence “Buck” Stahl and Carlotta May Gates drove from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and got married in a chapel.

The property in question is a 2,757-square-foot single-family home built in 1961. The architect’s own longtime family residence, it’s a symphony of wood, glass, and stone. After all, he’s one third of Blink-182, the pop-punk band which exploded in 1999 with hits like “What’s My Age Again? ” and “All the Small Things,” and that—despite breakups, makeups, and member shake-ups—remains a prominent part of the millennial cultural lexicon.

For many home buyers and owners, the middle of the 20th century represents a golden age of American architecture. Livability, durability, and easy beauty flowed together with natural surroundings to create houses that still appeal to today’s home buyers. Odds are good there’s a lovely midcentury modern on sale in a neighborhood near you right now. Design fans have long made pilgrimages up and down the Pacific Coast seeking architectural exemplars of the modernist movement. The Mid-Century Modern Architecture Travel Guide is not only required reading for architecture junkies, it's also a handy tool for stringing together midcentury modern road trips.

Too much furniture and decor can make a room feel overcrowded and cluttered, while too little can make a space feel empty and drab. Mid-Century Modern homes make the most of the space by maximizing the room’s function. The couple plans to keep as much of the house's original design as possible. They are still in the process of getting the permits they need to start construction.

“There’s just something really appealing about the symmetry and openness of things,” he says of the homes. In 1961, John Lautner designed the West Hollywood home for interior designer and concert pianist Marco Wolff. For Lautner, who had apprenticed under Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s, the home was an opportunity to flex his creative muscles. What began as an arduous and almost vertical plot of land resulted in, perhaps, the acme of midcentury-modern residential architecture on the West Coast. With this home, Lautner leaned into the primal state of nature, demanding that his audience turn their preconceived notion of domesticity on its head. It was a bold statement of how humans once lived—among the trees, the rocks, perched atop a hill—and the architect stamped his thumbprint on it.

They each worked in aviation (Buck in sales, Carlotta as a receptionist), had previous marriages, and were strapping, tall, and extremely good looking—California Apollonians out of central casting. Back home in L.A., as the newlyweds pondered their future, they became preoccupied with a promontory of land jutting out like the prow of a ship from Woods Drive in the Hollywood Hills, about 125 feet above Sunset Boulevard. It was as conspicuous as it was forbidding, visible from the couple’s house on nearby Hillside Avenue. “This lot was in pure view—every morning, every night,” Carlotta Stahl recalled. Locals called it Pecker Point, presumably because it was a prime makeout venue.

Large windows that often slide open on to similarly geometric inner courtyards, patios or decks – integrating indoors with outdoors is an important design feature – are the main feature of rooms that often have changes in level. Explore the Lark House in Seattle, WA, a striking testimony of thoughtful architecture meeting modern functionality. Originally crafted by Al Bumgardner in 1958, this private house was redesigned in 2023 by SHED Architecture & Design. The renovation emphasizes openness, natural light, and scenic connections, seamlessly integrating historical reverence with contemporary living demands. From bespoke casework to a reimagined kitchen, each space harbors a blend of vintage allure and modern design.

Cavelike but not dark thanks to some well-placed large skylights, the Elrod Home is almost verging on UFO territory. As KAA Design’s Grant Kirkpatrick told us, “Palm Springs is a bastion of classic midcentury architecture,” and this is probably among the desert town’s most imaginative structures. Lark House, originally designed in 1958 by the esteemed Seattle architect Al Bumgardner, has undergone a sophisticated transformation to cater to the lifestyle of its modern inhabitants while preserving its historical essence. In 2023, SHED Architecture & Design took on the task of infusing contemporary functionalities into this private residence, located in the heart of Seattle, WA. The five-bedroom home features an atrium, walls of glass, and an abundance of custom built-ins.

Contemporary

Mid century modern homes are residential, single-family homes built using modernist principles and design tactics like cantilevered walls, flat-facing surfaces, and simple lines. Midcentury modern is a term that’s thrown around a lot these days, but what is it really? Midcentury-modern architecture is not simply anything that was designed and built in the middle of the 20th century, but in fact an architectural style with a defined set of principles and influences.

Plan: #108-1923

The bassist and singer did not know anything about the architect Harold “Hal” Levitt when shopping for a home in Los Angeles with his wife Skye Hoppus back in 2004. It was only after the couple fell in love with and purchased a midcentury-modern house by Levitt that they learned about his legacy. Our mission is to help people visualize, create & maintain beautiful homes. We bring to you inspiring visuals of cool homes, specific spaces, architectural marvels and new design trends. Function is the framework and foundation for designing a Mid-Century Modern space. Similar to the Scandinavian approach, Mid-Century Modern homes consist of warm, inviting tones, versatile furniture, and understated decoration, emphasizing the room’s function.

Born in Bergamo, the dapper 38-year-old talent spent years in Milan working on marketing strategy and design for the fashionable eyewear brand Oliver Peoples. Six years ago, after being named creative director of the company, he relocated to L.A., where he oversaw the design of more than a dozen Oliver Peoples boutiques in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. “In college I studied business and industrial design, so I learned to approach business from a design perspective and vice versa. It made me realize that interior design is where my true passions lie,” Tagliaferri says. The fireside composition in the living room encompasses an Oscar Niemeyer Alta lounge chair and ottoman, a Ciuingam sofa by De Pas D’Urbino Lomazzi, a Ribbon chair by Cesare Leonardi and Franca Stagi, and a Jean Claude Dresse cocktail table. Artworks include a Lillian Florsheim sculpture (left) and a Lucio Fontana print above the fireplace.

Mid-century decor elements, including tin ceilings and split-level spaces, combine modern elements to create something beautiful. Another key characteristic of the mid-century modern house is its relationship with nature. Architects working in this style often incorporated large windows and open floor plans into their designs, which provided scenic views and let in lots of light. Additionally, sliding glass doors enticed and encouraged residents to go outside and explore their surroundings. The original midcentury modern homes emphasized nature and lifestyle, so they were built with floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the yard, sliding glass doors, and many access points to the outdoors.

Inside, the emphasis is placed on functionality, meaning all aspects of the design are meant to make life easier and more efficient. In keeping with the other characteristics, the interior tends to be minimalist and Scandinavian in appearance. Flat planes and clean lines are hallmarks of this house style, with the roofline considered one of the most iconic features of the Mid-Century Modern home. To add character to a room, you’ll often see furniture, rugs, window treatments, and artwork with geometric patterns resembling starbursts, atomic, and boomerang features. Simple furnishings with clean lines and a muted color palette complement the simple exterior of a Mid-Century Modern home. You’ll often see the use of large statement pieces, like sculptures or plants rather than small trinkets or collections, and furniture is kept simple with sleek lines with wooden or metal pin-style legs.

Original mid century modern homes sell for millions of dollars in California – even for just a one-bedroom home. New builds have become expansive, sprawling properties with thousands of square feet to show off and angular, clean shapes that stand out on any street in America. As for this house, there’s lots to love—especially for fans of midcentury modern design and lakeside life. And, unlike the main residence, the pool house vibrates with bright colors and numerous playful design details.

Partial brick or glass walls, fireplaces centered in rooms, and cabinetry also add depth and variation in elevation in the homes' interiors. Although midcentury modern architecture boomed all across America from 1945 to 1969, it's seen a major resurgence in recent years. Interior decorating styles that draw inspiration from midcentury style, like Scandinavian design and Danish Modern, have made this style accessible to millions of new homeowners.

The hallmark of these mid-century modern exteriors lies in their ability to blend effortlessly with the surrounding environment, often achieved through large windows and sliding glass doors that invite abundant natural light and provide breathtaking views. We’ll see how flat or low-sloping roofs create a distinctive visual appeal, while carefully selected accents and landscaping choices enhance the overall aesthetic. Mid-century modern house plans refer to architectural designs that emerged in the mid-20th century (1940s-1960s). These plans typically feature open floor plans, large windows, integration with nature, and a focus on simplicity and functionality. Characterized by clean lines, low-pitched or flat rooflines, organic shapes, and an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living, mid-century modern house plans celebrate the marriage of form and function. Mid-Century Modern houses were designed to be aesthetically beautiful and functional, with a large focus on family.

However, the movement became popularized in the 1950s, so some of the original mid-century modern homes will be from that era. Families often struggled financially and were too worried about soldiers away at war to be concerned with interior design elements. The appeal of the mid-century modern style comes from its ability to nod toward nostalgia while taking steps toward modern living. This old-meets-new style combines simple designs with dramatic accents to create something almost effortlessly beautiful.

While many Modernist movements capture this interest in the experimental, mid-century modern architecture has resonated over decades to remain a popular style today. This version is inspired by international architects and heavily influenced by the Bauhaus movement. Homes are simple, with little to no decoration, and typically finished with stucco.

We had to figure out which piece of wood is which color, the elaborate interplay between the posts and beams with the floor and ceiling, how certain volumes and forms interact. In a lot of ways, the process was like making a painting in three dimensions,” Weatherford says. Jason Statham—hero of action-thriller films like the Fast & Furious franchise, Snatch, and The Transporter—may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of midcentury-modern design fanatics. But it takes only a few minutes of conversation with the actor to realize he has an almost encyclopedic knowledge of the movement’s design philosophies, major architects, and—most importantly—where to buy houses that fit the description.

The style continues to influence contemporary architecture in ways big and small, so below, with the help of four industry experts, we’ve broken it all down from you—from the history to the most famous examples that still stand today. Attention to detail is evident in the choice of materials and fixtures throughout the house. In the kitchen, custom cabinetry and high-grade woodwork blend the house’s original architectural elements with new, modern additions. The installation of a Nero Marquina Marble island and a walk-up coffee bar enhances functionality while maintaining aesthetic allure. The primary bedroom saw a strategic remolding to foster privacy and serenity, including a modified entrance through an enlarged walk-in closet and a repositioned two-way fireplace. The internal layout was meticulously restructured to enhance the entry of natural light and offer expansive views of the surrounding landscape, aligning with Bumgardner’s original architectural vision.

Hot Wheels 2017 Super Treasure Hunts Cruise Bruiser Price Guide

hot wheels cruise bruiser

So when I said the Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser takes me back to my childhood, you can see why. This car would have been perfect for the demolition derby had it been made in the 1980s (since it most likely would have been all metal). To my recollection, Hot Wheels has never done a demolition derby specific casting. We’ve seen releases to the liking of the Demolition Derby 5-Pack (in 2010), but none of the castings were any you would see in a real demolition derby. So it would have been really cool to have a real demolition derby car as a kid instead of crashing a bunch of high-end exotic cars into each other. When images of the design first surfaced, many collectors wondered what this “crocodile offspring of Mickey Mouse wearing sunglasses and sporting a killer mustache” represented and now you can be safely assured, its purely from the mind of Robert Heath.

card

The trunk of the casting will always feature a 5SP spare tire no matter what the main wheel type is. Beyond the awesomeness of this #Demolition Derby Vehicle casting, I’m willing to bet that if you weren’t at Irwindale Speedway on May 7, 2016, you don’t know the story behind the graphics on this one. The #92 “River Rat”-mobile is the creation of Hot Wheels (Tracks & Playsets) Designer, Robert Heath. Chances are, you’ve seen images of the newest #Cruise Bruiser from the #2017 Hot Wheels #HW Daredevils series — and hopefully, you’ve had success finding it as part of the “K” cast assortment along with its Super #Treasure Hunt variant. If you haven’t seen it, we have that covered here, along with a few juicy tidbits of collector candy.

Orange Track Diecast on Facebook

Since this is an #Unlicensed Hot Wheels “fantasy car” — or “Hot Wheels original” — there is no affiliation with any automaker as this one in from the mind of Hot Wheels Designer, Dmitriy “Dima” Shakhmatov. His working title, “Momma’s Little Stinker” never panned out with Mattel legal, so the “Cruise Bruiser” was born. Bruiser Cruiser is a fantasy casting resembling that of a highly-customized three-wheeled chopper with a race car style wing on the rear. The casting comes with a Bumper Claw similar to all other Chopcycles castings which allow them to be used on Sizzlers Fat Track. Bruiser is an original design depicting a performance-oriented contemporary muscle car with retro-inspired styling.

Bruiser Cruiser

The Cruise Bruiser is a Hot Wheels original design based on a demolition derby station wagon. The Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser from the 2016 HW Daredevils Series is an unlicensed Hot Wheels demolition derby station wagon. Now some collectors may prefer the omission of the graphics on top of the standard release, and that is fine however, you have to appreciate the “more authentic approach” with the top graphics on the $TH — it even has painted roof rails! Also, those that keep their cars carded are deprived of the “TH” logo on the $TH as its only on the side that faces the blister card, replacing the #92. The Hot Wheels Cruise Bruiser Super Treasure Hunt from 2017 is a highly detailed and collectible version of the Cruise Bruiser car model.

It may be a pretty young casting collection, but its one that has gotten plenty of coverage here on OTD. Would you like to see more #Demolition Derby Vehicles of this nature? My affinity for the #Cruise Bruiser started back in 2015 when the casting was first released as part of the 2016 HW Daredevils series. Its a jacked-up, #Demolition Derby Vehicle reminiscent of late ’60s / early ’70s land yachts — especially the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser.

Since the #Cruise Bruiser was selected to be one of 15 Super #Treasure Hunts in the #2017 Hot Wheels mainline, its always fun to compare the $TH release with the common release. Sure, there is the #Real Riders versus standard basic wheels comparison, and also the #Spectraflame Paint versus enamel paint comparison, but those take a back seat to the added/alternate graphics on this release. Click on any of the links in the above paragraph, or check out the #Cruise Bruiser tag, to catch up all of its previous releases.

There are also gator wrestling shows, animal encounters and talks by the Gator Boys, who are a team that works to rescue alligators from domesticated areas and bring them to a safe environment. Spend time meandering ancient lands viewing more than 360 types of bird, flowers, plants and trees that you won't find in any other place in the U.S. And, if you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of a Florida panther, an American alligator or a saltwater crocodile (all from a safe distance, of course). For those sailing with Virgin Voyages, the Bimini Beach Club offers an exclusive escape, where chic design meets the untouched beauty of the Bahamas.

Day trip to Biscayne National Park (driving distance: 1 hour and 15 minutes)

While it's easy to spend the day on the beach, don't miss the chance to venture into Alice Town. You can meander The King's Highway and The Queen's Highway (the area's two main roads) and explore colorful shops filled with works from local artists. At 95% water, Biscayne National Park is a paradise for boaters, snorkelers and divers – or for anyone who just wants to spend a little time in, on or around the water. For a fast-paced adventure, look for airboat tours along the Tamiami Trail, plus tours at Everglades Holiday Park.

Things to do in Bimini, Bahamas

The current schedule offers sailings on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays most of the year (see the full calendar schedule below). The Bimini Fast Ferry offers one-way service, day trips (over and back same day) or split dates (depart one day and return another). Bimini, a serene island located in the westernmost part of the Bahamas, stands out as a sought-after port of call on Bahamas cruise itineraries. Known for its crystal-clear waters, rich history, and vibrant marine life, Bimini offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural exploration, making it a must-visit destination for cruisers seeking both relaxation and adventure.

One of the best ways to travel between Bimini island and U.S. is on the Bimini - Fort Lauderdale ferry route. Includes cruise to Bimini from Miami, and access to Bimini beaches. For any cruises listed, Cruise Critic does not guarantee any specific rates or prices. Your group will love to wander through poet-laureate Ashley Saunders' Dolphin House Museum — a dolphin- and ocean-inspired museum and gallery. And before you catch the ferry back to Florida, make time for an early meal where you can dine on fresh fish, nouveau cuisine and traditional Bahamian dishes.

Celebrity Reflection, Western Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, January 12, 2025

Whether seeking solitude in a private club or the open embrace of Bimini’s beaches and cultural sites, this port of call promises unforgettable moments and discoveries. There are several other fun things to do both near the cruise port in Bimini and a little ways away from it, if you have the time. Bimini Road is a great diving and snorkeling spot not far off from the coast and port, which theorists have claimed to be the road to the Lost City of Atlantis. The only way to get from the South Bimini Airport to the Bimini Cruise Port is by ferry. The ferry ride is only about a 10-minute ride from island to island.

You can also access several popular hiking and biking trails, along with paddling sites, including Pine Island and Flamingo, as well as the Nike Missile Base. Bimini in the Bahamas, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. As a matter of fact, you can easily get there by taking one of the cruises that depart out of Fort Lauderdale. The shipwreck of SS Sapona is a great place to snorkel as well, but it's south from South Bimini, so it's a bit more of a trek. You could also explore Alice Town on North Bimini and lounge on the beaches nearby, three of which are Alice Town, Radio and Beach 360.

Fort Lauderdale welcomes many cruise ships throughout the year at Port Everglades cruise terminals, offering a wide range of itineraries to Bimini. A cruise out of Fort Lauderdale is one of the most popular ways to experience the Caribbean islands. Several of the world’s best-known cruise lines, including Celebrity Cruises, Holland America Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Viking Cruises, are all based in Fort Lauderdale.

Sites like Stiltsville, a collection of houses built in the 1930s in the middle of the sea, and the underwater Maritime Heritage Trail are sure to impress those seeking to learn more about their surroundings. Groups will also enjoy the chance to paddle out to Boca Chita Key (which features a historical lighthouse), or picnic on Elliott Key. Enter the park from the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center to get information on ranger-led slough slogging (or a wet hike, for non-Florida natives), kayaking and canoeing, fishing, geocaching and other activities.

One of the most popular ways of reaching the cruise port on North Bimini island is by the South Bimini Airport, which is on South Bimini. Balearia Caribbean ferry is the only ferry company that connects Florida (departs from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale) to the Bahamas, in this case to Bimini Island. The direct fast ferry leaves early in the morning from the US and arrives, in just 2 hours, at the island of Bimini. Enjoy the Bimini day trip with the Balearia Caribbean ferry from Fort Lauderdale and discover the Bahamas.

Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. With morning departures, the ferry will deliver you to an island of white sand beaches surrounded by turquoise waters. Here, you can see the island's famous swimming pigs, but you might also find yourself swimming alongside dolphins and other wildlife.

The Everglades, nicknamed the “River of Grass,” is one of the world's most awe-inspiring wonders. Plus, Everglades National Park is only about an hour away – making it a simple day trip from Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Bimini is celebrated for its stunning natural landscapes, from the legendary “Bimini Road” that sparks tales of the Lost City of Atlantis to its renowned healing hole, said to possess restorative properties. The island’s turquoise waters are a haven for diving and fishing enthusiasts, boasting some of the best spots in the Bahamas for big-game fishing and shipwreck exploration. But this coastal South Florida city is a worthy destination in and of itself. Fort Lauderdale is well-known for its beaches, bars and restaurants, shopping, arts, culture, and events.

Just south of Biscayne Bay National Park are the Upper Keys – including Islamorada and Key Largo – which boast numerous options for Miami day trips. If you’re a cyclist, plan to bring your bike or rent one for the day and add a few extra minutes of driving time to your day trip from Miami or Fort Lauderdale. There are several restaurants and shopping spots in Alice Town, which is located on the southern part of North Bimini and is the most settled location on this island. Fisherman's Village is the best option on North Bimini for shopping.
